Novak Djokovic has earned himself the tag of an entertainer off the court with his jolly nature and amicable attitude towards ball boys. However, he turned out to be a moment of nightmare for one of them on Thursday as he went down on his face while trying to return Wilfried Tsonga’s backhand slice.

With Tsonga returning from an injury filled 2018 where he could hardly play the usual number of matches he generally plays, the Serbian international was the easy favourites to go through. However, that didn’t mean that the World No. 1 wouldn’t get any competition from the once promising tennis ace from France.

It started out quite well with Djoker getting off his line easily before Tsonga eventually getting back to his flow with each point. And the incident took place during the first set with Djokovic leading the set 5-2. Tsonga looked to have an upper hand from the serve as he was stretching the Serbian from the beginning.

After forcing a scratchy return from his serve to his T, Tsonga kept Djokovic at his backhand and kept him pushing to his left before a weak return at the front court saw Tsonga anticipating it very early. He advanced quickly and pulled out a perfect backhand slice for Djokovic to cover from his extreme left corner.

Djokovic wasn’t giving up at all and tried his best to reach it but to no avail. Consequently, he was too bent for comfort and tumbled down almost his face near the umpire before taking a roll and standing up. However, the ball boy standing at the net looked quite wary of the incoming Djokovic and was a bit scared as the Serbian fell down. In the end, Djokovic won the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
