Subirton Challenger Women | Ankita Raina bows out losing in straight sets
Ankita Raina’s impressive winning streak at the ITF Women Subirton Challenger came to a screeching halt as she went down 6-3, 6-3 against Britain’s Katy Dunne in the round of 32. Earlier, Raina had defeated France’s Myrtille Goerges and former World No. 12 Sabine Lisicki on the same day.
Raina has had a decent form of late with her beating 2011 US Open champion Samantha Stosur just over a month back and had since looked very consistent with her performances. However, she needs to work on her consistency more and persistence.
She started the first set well against Dunne as both the players won their respective service games until the fifth game before the Briton broke the Indian to lead 4-3. While Raina was expected to come back instantly, she went on to lose the eighth game as well to lose the set 3-6.
The second set had no different path and this time Raina was beaten in the fifth game to trail 4-2. Although she managed to break Dunne immediately in the sixth to make it 4-3, she couldn’t keep the same intensity in her service games. She was broken again and eventually lost the second set 3-6 again.
