India’s doubles tennis ace Rohan Bopanna advances into the next round of the French Open partnering with Romania’s Marius Copil as they beat the Australia-South African pair of Michael Venus and Raven Klassen. India also have Leander Paes, Divij Sharan, and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in other matches.

After India’s sole singles star Prajnesh Gunneswaran had bow out in the very first clash of the Grand Slam, the nation has yet again turned towards its doubles stars playing in the prestigious tournament. And they didn’t disappoint either with Bopanna getting the better of his opponents in the round of 1/32 finals.

Alongside Copil, the Indo-Romanian pair started on a losing note as they were broken in the very first game of the first set. However, they came back stronger breaking Venus and Klassen in the very next game before they kept winning their respective service games and eventually breaking their opponent in the seventh game to win it 6-3.

The second set was pretty straightforward with none of the pairs making any mistakes whatsoever. The match went into the tie-breaker, which was a roller-coaster ride since then. Bopanna and Co. won the first serve and got broken on the seventh to keep the score at 3-4. However, Bopanna and Copil broke their opponent on the eighth and eventually win the second set 6-7 (4-7).

Apart from them, India also have Divij Sharan partnering Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner, while the legendary Paes is playing alongside France’s Benoît Paire, and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan partnered with Mischa Zverev.
