Indian shooter Heena Sidhu bagged India's first gold, in a senior event, in the 2015 Asian Shooting Championship as she topped the women's 10m Air Rifle event, with a score of 195.8 in Kuwait City on Friday.

The 2010 Commonwealth gold medalist made a score of 195.8 and edged out Mongolian shooter Shinemurun Nyamdorj (195.4) and Korea's Heesun Kim (174.4) in the finals.

Heena won a bronze medal in the same event on her last visit to Kuwait, for the 2007 Asian Shooting Championship, and Kuwait City has once again proved to be a happy hunting ground for the 26-year-old.

However, with the International Olympic Committee(IOC) revoking the Olympic Qualification Status of this Asian Shooting Championship at the start of the tournament, this win will not book a place for Heena in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Heena though, has no qualms about missing out on a quota after such a valiant effort. “I have no regrets for quota at all. My job remains the same no matter what the stakes are. I am happy about the medal and I did not give up till the end of both the qualification and the finals but the performance could have been much better. I will be working hard. I am still a work in progress and I am still learning and this match has definitely taught me a lot,” Heena said in an interview to Indianshooting.com.

Earlier on Wednesday, Indian shooter Jitu Rai bagged a silver medal in men's 50m free pistol event. The 25-year-old’s score of 189.5 (555) was second behind South Korean Park Daehun's 199.2 (567).
