How a 2-Ball Hat-Trick Became One of IPL’s Rarest Feats
A hat-trick can be taken in three consecutive deliveries, which makes it rare to achieve. Even in the Indian Premier League, only a few have managed to achieve a hat-trick. But there has been one rare incident where a player took three wickets in just 2 balls.

In the IPL, several players have managed to take a hat-trick. But there is one hat-trick record which can never be broken by any bowler, until or unless it happens by accident and luck. It is the record of Pravin Tambe, who took a hat-trick in the tournament in just 2 balls. Let's take a look at how this incident unfolded.
Tambe’s Historical Hat-trick
In the IPL 2014 season, Rajasthan Royals went against Kolkata Knight Riders. With Kolkata Knight Riders fielding first in this game, the team made Rajasthan Royals score 170 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In the chase, Kolkata Knight Riders were given a strong start by Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir.
The team stood at 122/3, when Pravin Tambe turned the tables. Manish Pandey attempted to play a shot by stepping out but the ball went down for a wide. Fortunately, Sanju Samson was able to stump him out, giving Pravin Tambe a wicket, without even bowling a legal delivery. Moreover, Manish Pandey was dismissed without even playing a single ball.
Yusuf Pathan arrived at the crease after his wicket, and Tambe took a catch off his own delivery to send Pathan back to the dugout. So, he had two wickets after bowling just one legal delivery. Then came Ryan ten Doeschate, who was given LBW on Tambe's second ball of the over. In this way, Tambe achieved a historical hat-trick in the tournament history.
His over started with a wide and a wicket on the very same delivery. And bowling the next two legal deliveries, he was able to take the wickets of Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate. Eventually, Rajasthan Royals won the game by 10 runs with Pravin Tambe receiving the Player of the Match award.
