Apurvi Chandela adds another gold to receive ‘Best shooter’ award at Swedish GP
Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela won successive gold medals in 10m Air Rifle and emerged as the ‘Shooter of the Tournament’ at the Swedish Cup Grand Prix in Savsjo, Sweden on Wednesday.
After winning the gold on Tuesday with a world record score of 211.2 in the final, the Indian shooter qualified for the finals by shooting a score of 416.1 to finish fourth in the qualification round by scoring 104.7, 104.9, 102.5, 104.0 in the four rounds. She clinched the gold in the final by shooting a score of 208.9 to win the Shooter of the Tournament award in the tri-series event.
Apurvi was also awarded a Walther rifle for her outstanding performance of two gold medals in the event, besides her crown as the best shooter. In the first day of the event, the Jaipur lass had finished 10th with a score of 414.1.
Norway’s Malin Westerheim won the silver with a score of 208.4, while her compatriot Andrea Wick bagged the bronze after scoring 186.1.
Apurvi, the only Indian woman shooter to qualify for the Olympics till date, had an outstanding 2015 bagging bronze at the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup in Changwon, Korea to qualify for the Olympics and silver at the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Finals in Munich. She also another medal to her kitty last season by winning gold at the 59th National shooting championship.
