India’s only remaining male’s singles shuttler at the Badminton World Championships, Kidambi Srikanth, was sent packing in the quarter-finals by World No 1 Son Wan Ho. But it is not all over for the Indian contingent as PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will play their respective QFs matches today.

Srikanth had emerged as India's best bet at the tournament after he clinched back-to-back titles at Indonesia and Australia and a final finish at the Singapore Open. But after his failure in the quarter final, the focus has now shifted to two remaining shuttlers at the Championship - PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.

Rio Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu had to break a sweat to see of Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong 19-21, 23-21, 21-17 in the pre-quarterfinals. However, Sindhu was visibly sluggish in the opening game and struggled to get into a decent rhythm before winning the third game to win the match. She will face fifth seed Sun Yu of China in the Quarter-finals today.

On the other hand, Saina Nehwal had a far more straightforward match as she outfoxed South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun 21-19 21-15 with ease. The World No. 3 was expected to pose a stiffer challenge for the Indian, but the London Olympics bronze medalist dominated the game from the word go. Nehwal today faces Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in a bid to secure a place in last eight.
