Carolina Marin: Both Sindhu and Saina are very competitive and tough opponents

Olympic Gold-medalist Carolina Marin has said that it’s difficult to say who between Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu is tougher to play. The Spaniard has also spoken about her dreams to win the All England Championship, World Championship and the European Championship in 2017.
Carolina Marin dominated PV Sindhu in the final of the Rio Olympics to win the Gold medal, but Sindhu exacted some revenge by defeating the Spaniard in the quarterfinals of the season-ending Super Series Finals in Dubai. Â Come today evening, both the shuttlers will again take on each other in the inaugural match of the Premier Badminton League at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
On being asked about who is the tougher opponent between Sindhu and Sania, Marin found it difficult to pick one.
She said, “It’s really difficult to choose between Saina and Sindhu as they are both very competitive and tough opponents. To beat them, I always have to give my best,” reported The Hindustan Times.Â
She added, “It was very different when I used to play against Saina in the beginning as I wasn’t at a very good level to play against the top players. But after I changed my training and a number of things back in Spain, I grew mentally, physically, tactically and technically. I told myself I could beat anyone.”
Marin’s year of 2016 can be divided into a year of two contrasting halves. In the first half until August, she showed some jaw-dropping skill to win European Championship before winning the Gold medal at Rio but fell from grace after that with really exits at tournament after tournament. But Marin wants to put the bad patch behind her to perform well in 2017.
“The problem is you cannot win every time… It’s not possible to put in a good performance every time because we’re all human at the end of the day. I head to practice every day thinking how I can improve my game. That is the best way I keep myself motivated.
“My goal for the next season is to win the All England, world championship, and the European Championship. I know it’s not going to be easy, but I’ll give it my best shot. I would also like to win a few more Super Series titles, but my first aim is to win these three tournaments and then plan accordingly.”
Football is the most popular game in Spain, the country that Marin belongs to. Marin wants to change that perception of people and wants to popularize Badminton in her country.
