Indonesia Open 2017 | Srikanth Kidambi and HS Prannoy progress to the second round while Sai Praneeth crashes out
Srikanth Kidambi defeated Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki Vincent 21-15, 17-21, 21-16 while HS Prannoy romped past Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 21-13, 21-18 to advance to the second round of Indonesia Superseries. Meanwhile, Sai Praneeth bowed out to Korea's Wang Han Son 21-14, 21-18.
A resurgent Srikanth Kidambi came from behind to defeat Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki Vincent and march into the second round of Indonesia Open Superseries in Jakarta yesterday. Srikanth maintained a narrow lead of 11-9 in the first game before taking the game. 21-13. However, Vincent clawed back in the second game to race to a 12-7 lead before Srikanth narrowed the gap to 16-13, only to go down fighting at 17-21.
The decider turned out to be a nail-biter as the Indian and the Hong Kong International were tied at 9-9 but Vincent raced ahead by two to take the lead only to for a brief moment as the match once again was brought on level terms by Srikanth who tied the game once again at 14-14. From then on, the Indian took an 18-14 lead before sealing the match 21-16.
Earlier in the day, HS Prannoy breezed past The World No. 22 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the 43 minutes long contest to book a place in the pre-quarters of the tournament.
The Kerela shuttler took an early lead of 11-8 at the break to further race ahead to a 16-8 and eventually sealed the first game. However, Prannoy trailed 12-17 in the second game and came from behind to level it at 17-17 before winning the game and the match 21-18.
On the other hand, B. Sai Praneeth who won the Singapore Open and Thailand Open earlier this year slumped to a 14-21, 18-21 defeat at the hands of World No. 1 Son Wan Ho to crash out of the tournament.
