Srikanth got the better of Gemke in a dominating manner with the match going on for only 31 minutes. The Indian started off the first game with a very positive intent and at the mid-game break, he was leading 11-2. He toyed with his Danish opponent in the entire game as he wrapped it up quickly with the score of 21-9. Although Gemke put up a decent show in the second game and had a lead of 11-9 at the break, Srikanth came back strong in the game and went on to win it 21-19 in the end and booked a place in the pre-quarterfinals where he will meet Suppanyu Avihingsanon.

In another men's singles match, HS Prannoy was beaten 21-16, 21-12 by NG Ka Long Angus from Hong Kong. Prannoy was completely outplayed by the Hong Kong shuttler and he never looked in the game.

The Indian pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy also combined well to give another victory for the Indians on the second day of China Open. They defeated world number 12 duo of Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith 21-13, 20-22, 21-17 in an hour and three minutes to reach the second round. The Indians didn't start off well but still had the lead half-way in the first game and ended the first one at a very comfortable margin of 21-13.

In a much competitive second game, the English pair had the lead for the most part of the game but it was equalised at 20 but Ellis and Smith managed to take the match into the third game by winning it 22-20. In the decider, Ponappa and Rankireddy maintained a very good lead from the beginning and at the mid-game break, they were ahead by six points. The English pair failed to catch up and eventually ended up losing the game 21-17 and the match as well. In the next round, they will play the Chinese pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong.

Pairing with Chirag Shetty in the men's doubles category, Rankireddy lost 21-19, 22-20 to Malaysian pair of Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong while in the women's doubles, the Indian pair of Ponappa and Sikki Reddy lost 21-10, 21-18 to Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong from Korea.
