Badminton World Championship | PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal could face each other in semis
Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu could face each other in the semi-finals of the Badminton World Championship after a re-draw was carried out. Sindhu could play Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei or China's Cai Yan Yan while Nehwal will battle another Chinese in the form of Chen Yufei in the quarter-finals.
Leading Indian women's singles shuttlers - Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu - were drawn in the same half of the Badminton World Championship which will be held in Basel from August 19 onward. BWF officials were forced to conduct a re-draw as Mauritius’ international Kate Foo Kune had been suspended over a doping charge in July and was still part of the initial draw.
“It was determined a player had mistakenly been included in the women’s singles entry list and the BWF has subsequently adjusted the entry list and conducted a re-draw,” the Badminton World Federation announced on its website.
While Sindhu and Nehwal are in the same half, their round of eight opponents will remain the same in the competition. Sindhu will play either second seed Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei or China’s Cai Yan Yan while Nehwal will meet China’s Chen Yufei in the quarters.Â
Both players have a bye in the opening round as Sindhu will most likely play Beiwen Zhang of USA in the third round while Nehwal could take on Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark at the same stage.
