Canada Open | Parupalli Kashyap, Sourabh Verma storm into pre-quarters with convincing victories

Parupalli Kashyap and Sourabh Verma have won their respective second round men’s singles matches at the ongoing Canada Open and qualified for the pre-quarters. On the other hand, Ajay Jayaram, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen were knocked out of the tournament after losing in the second round.

Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap continued his brilliant run at the ongoing Canada Open by beating France’s Lucas Corvee in straight games 21-12, 21-17 to qualify for the pre-quarterfinal in men’s singles event of the $75,000 Canada Open Super 100 tournament in Calgary. Kashyap will now take on Chinese shuttler Ren Peng Bo.

In another men’s singles second round match, his compatriot Sourabh Verma managed to thrash local favourite B R Sankeerth in straight games 21-14, 21-11. The 26-year-old Indian will also face a Chinese Sun Fei Xiang with ain aim of making it to the quarterfinals.

However, three other Indian shuttlers Ajay Jayaram, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen lost their respective second round matches to get knocked out of the tournament. Ajay was beaten 19-21, 17-21 by England’sRajiv Ouseph while Prannoy went down to Koki Watanabe of Japan in straight games 16-21, 10-21. China’s Weng Hong Yang got the better of Sen in straight games 21-7, 21-13 in the second round of the Canada Open.
