Sai Praneeth and Lakshya Sen reach semis in Swiss Open and China Masters respectively

Sai Praneeth defeated France’s Lucas Corvee by a scoreline of 21-13, 21-11, in a match that lasted just 35 minutes, to book a spot in the semifinals of the ongoing Swiss Open. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen registered a 16-21, 21-15, 21-19 win to set up a final four match against China’s Weng Hongyang.

The Swiss Open, on Friday, initially saw a strong Indian group of players make it to the quarter-final stage. However, at the end of the day, the Indian contingent was stripped down to just one player as B Sai Praneeth reached the final four with a straight-set win over France’s Lucas Corvee. 

The world number 22 defeated Corvee by a margin of 21-13, 21-11 in a match that went on for 35 minutes. Initially trailing 3-6 in the first game, the Indian did not lose the lead even once after that in the match as smoothly sailed past the finish line. This will be Sai Praneeth’s first semi-final appearance on the tour since the New Zealand Open in May last year.

The 26-year-old will face a tough challenge in the next round in the form of Olympic champion - Chen Long. Incidentally, The Chinese player beat India's Shubhankar Dey by a scoreline of 21-18, 21-17 in a match that lasted 52 minutes despite being just a two-game affair. 

However, Riya Mookerjee was knocked out in the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Swiss Open badminton tournament with a straight games loss against top seed Chen Yufei of China in Basel on Friday.

Indian shuttler, Lakshya Sen, also sealed a spot in the semi-finals of the China Masters with a hard-fought win against fourth seed - Zhou Zeqi. The 17-year-old beat the world number 42 with a 16-21, 21-15, 21-19 win to set up a final four clash with another Chinese shuttler - Weng Hongyang.
