2019 Asian Championship gold medalist Amit Panghal has stated that Rio Olympics Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov seemed to be scared of him of late. He also admitted that shifting up from the 49 kg to 52 kg category wasn’t very easy and shed light on his packed schedule with World Championship ahead.

Coming into the scene by winning a gold medal on his debut appearance at the National Boxing Championships 2017, the 23-year-old has since grown leaps and bounds. His highest point, however, came in Asiad 2018, when he bagged the gold medal by beating the Rio Olympics Champion Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan.

Panghal has continued his form this year as well, winning a gold medal in Asian Boxing Championship, which was held at Bangkok last week by defeating Korea’s Kim Inkyu Korea. And the silver medalist of 2018 Commonwealth games has now stated that Dusmatov seemed to be intimidated by him also adding that the Uzbek pugilist was not up to his level.

“Kuch nahi hai (It's nothing). I think he was a bit intimidated by me this time, his game wasn't up to it. Thoda down tha mere saamne (He seemed a bit down)," said Panghal, reported PTI.

Panghal has moved from 49 kg to the 52 kg category after the federation had to scrap few categories as per new laws and Panghal said that the transition wasn’t easy albeit it didn’t stop from winning a gold at the continental stage.

"You can say that things worked out. Plus the fact that most of the guys I fought were also the ones I used to encounter in 49kg. So, luckily all of us made the transition at the same time. There was familiarity,"

Panghal, who had won a gold medal at Strandja Memorial held at Bulgaria, also revealed his packed schedule with World Championships ahead on September.

“I have a packed schedule, which includes training trips to Italy and Ireland. Plus there is the India Open later this month (starting May 20 in Guwahati). So it's a good build-up," he said.
