India will be fielding a relatively inexperienced squad in the upcoming Men’s Boxing World Championships, which begins on Monday, in Belgrade. Former silver medalist Amit Panghal and 2020 Tokyo Olympics participant Manish Kaushik are two of the prominent pugilists to remain absent.

Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has been given a direct entry to the 2021 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships. The other members of the Indian contingent will be selected based on the results of the women’s national boxing championships in Hisar, Haryana.

26-year-old Sumit Sangwan, who is arguably one of the biggest underachievers in Indian boxing, has revealed that struggle keeps him happy and added that it is more important than the medals. Sangwan has faced four years of injury and bad luck which has kept him moving in and out of the sport.

Shiva Thapa has said that he realised every boxer has a “bluprint” after he watched Andy Cruz dismantle Manish Kaushik, who defeated Thapa in the trials to win a spot for the World Championships. Thapa is quite hopeful that he will qualify for his third Olympics in Tokyo in 2020.
