BCCI seeks Government permission to play Pakistan in Dubai

India could play Pakistan in Dubai somewhere between September and November this year, subject to permission from the Indian Government. The BCCI has written to the home ministry for permission to complete their obligations under the Future Tours & Programme (FTP) agreement which was inked in 2014.

India were scheduled to host Pakistan for a brief tournament in 2016 but did not get clearance from the government owing to tensions between the two countries. However, the Indian Express has reported that the Home Ministry is willing to give the necessary permission to the BCCI to play a bilateral series in Dubai, the home venue for Pakistan.

The BCCI is considering to schedule the tournament between September and November - the time set for the now defunct Champions League T20. It’s believed that the Indian board wants a short series before India head off for their tour of South Africa.

A source was quoted saying, “Permission has been sought from Home Ministry, we don’t know what is the government stand. Last time, tension between the two countries was at its peak. Also, there is the FTP agreement that needs to be fulfilled and that’s why the board is willing to travel to Dubai to play a series against Pakistan. Unless the government gives its nod, the BCCI cannot do anything.”
