The Indian cricket team have lost their No.1 position in ICC ODI rankings, which they had assumed for a very brief period, to South Africa after losing the fourth ODI to Australia yesterday. However, India can regain the top spot once again if they can manage to beat Australia in the fifth ODI.

Despite losing the ODI series 3-0 before the match in Bengaluru, Australia put up a spirited performance against India yesterday to squeeze out a 21-run victory. David Warner marked his milestone 100th ODI with a 119-ball 124 to end his team's 14-game winless sequence on the road.

The Australian victory not only broke India’s nine-match unbeaten streak, it also had repercussions on India’s ODI rankings. Due to the loss, India lost a point and on the basis of the decimal point, South Africa edged them ahead again and assumed the No.1 spot on the table. For the first time ever in cricket history, India were at the top of both ODI and Test rankings simultaneously since it was first introduced in 2002.

However, India will get a chance to regain the spot in the fifth and final ODI of the series against Australia. If they can win the match, they will dethrone the Proteas again from the position.

On the other hand, Australia managed to stay at the No. 3 spot by virtue of their victory against India. The visitors secured one rating point from the win and ensured that they would remain at the same position even if they lose the fifth ODI.

In the T20I rankings, India are at the fifth position with New Zealand topping that table, followed by Pakistan, West Indies and England.
