Women’s Big Bash League have not only been a great platform for women cricketers to showcase their skills but also a huge of source of entertainment for the viewers over the years. Tuesday saw one such instance when Adelaide Strikers pulled off a win one of the most dramatic finishes ever.

Melbourne Stars failed to get a quick-firing start after batting first as Lizelle Lee and Katie Mack took an eternity to get going. Melbourne saw their third wicket fall as late as the 17th over but could not post a target more than 132 at the end. Apart from the openers, no batsmen managed to get it big with Melbourne Stars looking at a sure defeat against Adelaide Strikers.

However, the Strikers had their own share of surprises as they experienced an early batting collapse with eight of their batsmen already returning to the pavilion by the 18th over. A steady looking Tabatha Saville was the only slim hope for Adelaide who went into the final over with two wickets and 10 runs left for a win, but little did they know that they were in for a roller coaster of a ride.

Adelaide’s hopes were further diminished when Kristen Beams’ fourth ball saw Alex Price (Adelaide’s ninth wicket) returning to the dug-out after her diving effort saw the ball strike the wicket after touching her fingers. Saville had an uphill task ahead of her now with four runs needed from the last three balls and Katlyn Pope came in, who was not the safest option to have on the other at such a moment.

The pressure was getting the better of Saville as she completely missed the fifth ball that went straight to the wicket-keeper. With four needed off the last ball, Beams bowled a full-toss that was clearly above waist length and out of nowhere, Adelaide had gotten a free hit to make it count. The topsy-turvy over was finally ended by Savilla who played past deep backward point for a boundary and win the match on the last ball.
