IPL 2018 | Amol Muzumdar appointed as Rajasthan Royals’ batting coach

Rajasthan Royals have announced the addition of Amol Muzumdar to their backroom staff as team’s batting coach for the 2018 season of the Indian Premier League. With 9202 Ranji runs to his name, Muzumdar is the second on the list for highest run scorers in Ranji behind Wasim Jaffer.

After the addition of  Zubin Bharucha and Sairaj Bahutule to their coaching staff, Rajasthan Royals have now announced the appointment of Amol Muzumdar as the batting coach for the 2018 IPL season starting on April 7. He is set to oversee the first training camp for the RR players on March 13.

“We are proud to have Amol Muzumdar on board as the team’s batting coach. His record on domestic circuit speaks for his greatness. The young batsmen will get so much to learn from him and develop their skills,” said Bharucha, reported Hindustan Times

Muzumdar had a terrific domestic record as he has amassed 11147 runs in the 171 domestic matches during his career. His illustrious domestic career included 30 centuries and 60 half-centuries and is now excited to work with youngsters in the T20 format of the game.

“These are exciting times for a batsman. Twenty20 has completely changed the contours of the game. The skill sets are different, the game is more happening. There is never a dull moment,” said Muzumdar.

During the 2013-14 Ranji season, the 43-year-old decided to help the youngsters of the Andhra Pradesh Ranji team with their batting skills.

“As a coach, one has to constantly innovate and adapt while guiding the youngsters acquire new batting skills and keeping the basics of the game intact at the same time. It is a role I am excited about,’ added the new batting coach of RR.

Apart from the 11167 first-class runs, the Mumbai born lad is the second highest run scorer in the history of Ranji Trophy with a total of 9202 runs. He also holds the record for scoring highest runs by a batsman on his debut in a first-class game as he scored 260 runs against Haryana.
