Sandpapergate | Cricketing fraternity reacts to Cameron Bancroft's ball-tampering act and Steve Smith's blatant admission
Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft have shamefully admitted that they purposefully tried to alter the condition of the ball in the third Test against SA, after the incident was captured by the camera. The cricketing fraternity is completely shocked by the act and let their anger come out on Twitter.
In a recent crisis of sorts in the Australian cricket, Cameron Bancroft was caught by television cameras while trying to scuff up the ball with a yellow tape on Saturday. After the end of the day, he has been charged by the ICC after self-confessing to using yellow tape to pick up rough granules from the pitch and rub them on the rough side of the ball so as to aid reverse swing.
Attending the press conference with Bancroft, captain Steve Smith admitted that Australia deliberately tried to tamper with the condition of the ball to gain an advantage. While it is a full-blown crisis for the Australian cricket, the entire cricketing world is shocked and lost for words.
The talk has begun.
Can we talk about this? pic.twitter.com/cmpRrOArgD

When you are persuaded by seniors, you hardly say "no"
In this day and age surely you must know that there are cameras all over the ground. How daft was that #CameronBancroft? #sandpapergate pic.twitter.com/mOPqb9VhAB

It was indeed.
Mr Bancroft is very good at giving humorous press conferences ..... Tonight’s could be a belter !!!!!! #SAvAUS

Lehmann should come forward.
My 2cents worth - This will be Darren Lehmann’s greatest test as a coach, cos I will struggle to believe that this was all Bancroft’s idea. #SandpaperGate.

Steyn gun is firing.
Bud you know nothing in professional sport is done without the consent of your captain and coach... Tough times ahead.

Aussie way. No?
Very disappointed with the pictures I saw on our coverage here in Cape Town. If proven the alleged ball tampering is what we all think it is - then I hope Steve Smith (Captain) & Darren Lehmann (Coach) do the press conference to clean this mess up !

Virat Kohli would be smiling, somewhere.
Steve Smith, his Team & ALL the management will have to accept that whatever happens in their careers they will all be known for trying to CHEAT the game ... #SAvAUS

It is true.
WHAT THE ........ HAVE I JUST WOKEN UP TO. Please tell me this is a bad dream.

Can't agree more!
Among other things, it was incredibly naive. Like trying to burgle a high security establishment. And they didn't need to. This is the best bowling combination going in world cricket at the moment! Should back them to do it normally.
