IPL 2018 | I don’t rate pitches as good or bad, says Siddarth Kaul

Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Siddarth Kaul has stated that he doesn’t rate a pitch as good or bad but simply believes in giving his 100 percent, regardless of its nature. The current holder of IPL’s coveted purple cap, Kaul has scalped 11 wickets so far playing a crucial part for the side so far.

Siddarth Kaul had played the Under-19 World Cup that India won under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. However, despite belonging from the same batch, their progress have been contrastingly different. While after the triumph, Kaul went on to miss out on cricket for almost five years from 2007-2012, owing to various injuries, Kohli went to become India’s captain and the best ODI batsman currently. While it has taken a while for Kaul to get back into the rhythm, he did make a comeback in 2013 and has been impressing one and all with his performances in the domestic circuit, which eventually resulted in a national call-up but he didn’t play.

Kaul has been pivotal in the rise of SRH this season. The purple cap holder has looked determined alongside the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan, thereby making SRH’s bowling attack much more potent. In his interview with The Hindu, Kaul stated that pitch shouldn’t be a factor in bowlers’ performance and they should give their best regardless of the pitch behaviour.

“I don’t rate pitches as good or bad, helpful or not. It’s all about doing your best in the middle. If the pitch is seaming, good. If it isn’t, you still have to give your best, use variations on it. It is all about your attitude towards pitches, not the pitch itself. You are doing what you have to do on it, the pitch doesn’t do it. It’s only you at the top of your run-up and your wanting to give 100%,” said Kaul.

Kaul gave all the credits to the amount of work SRH bowlers put in to succeed. He pointed out that the team has clicked together as a whole at the right time, which has a major role to play in them being the table toppers.

“It’s a team game and everyone is doing their homework well, whether during training or in the game. Everyone has a role, a position to bowl and the support staff is also helping us a lot. Everyone knows when and where to bowl, it’s all about how much hard work you put in practice but most importantly, it is about clicking at the right time, which we are doing this time,” he said.

He emphasized that having experienced Indian and International players in the camp has helped the team a lot and has been a good learning experience for the youngsters.

“Almost everyone who is playing here has played a lot whether international cricket or domestic. That said, Bhuvi keeps helping us, even in nets, when he is not playing. More than half of our boys are still learning so when international players give tips about handling a situation, it helps a lot,” he added.
