VIDEO | Leg-umpire helps Sunrisers Hyderabad save three runs
Sunrisers Hyderabad have been one of the best fielding sides of the year so far with their impressive ground-work. Today, it seemed like all stars aligned for them as a Parthiv Patel flick hit leg-umpire Anil Dandekar’s thigh which meant Bangalore had to satisfy with one run instead of four.
Having put into a must-win situation, Royal Challengers Bangalore were put into bat first after Sunrisers' skipper Kane Williamson won the toss on what seemed like a rank turner. Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli had the task of putting together a good partnership for the team just the way they did in the last match against Kings XI Punjab in Indore and the stage was all set as well.
However, the initiation was anything but that. Patel drove a Sandeep Sharma delivery in the air but got lucky as Deepak Hooda at short cover failed to grab that catch. The jitters were clearly visible on the face of the veteran opener and to release that, Parthiv decided to open his arms.
While he tried to flick the second ball of the over towards mid-wicket, he couldn’t pick a single and in the following ball of the over, he flicked off the pads towards the square leg region. While the shot had four written all over it, it found umpire Anil Dandekar on the way.
And understandably, Parthiv was not at all happy with the umpire as he was very slow to open his legs. But, it is wrong to fault Parthiv even for the frustration as an important three runs were taken away, for no fault of theirs.
