Ranji Trophy | Elite B: Round 2- Akshath Reddy, Ricky Bhui and Koushik Ghosh’s hundreds remain highlights after Day 1

Akshath Reddy, Ricky Bhui and Koushik Ghosh shone with the bat for Hyderabad, Andhra, and Bengal respectively on the first day of the second round of Ranji season 2018-19. In the other encounter of the group, Dhruv Shorey and Hiten Dalal scored 88 and 79 for Delhi against Himachal.

Bengal vs Madhya Pradesh  

Brief Scores: Bengal 246/4 (Koushik Ghosh 100, Abhimanyu Easwaran 86; Shubham Sharma 1/3) vs Madhya Pradesh

Bengal batsmen Koushik Ghosh and Abhimanyu Easwaran toyed with the MP bowlers as the home team mustered 246/4 on the first day at Eden Gardens. Ghosh got to his hundred while Easwaran got out 14-run short of the milestone. Skipper Manoj Tiwary was at the crease with Anustup Majumdar when stumps were drawn on the opening day.  Kuldeep Sen, Avesh Khan, MihirHirwani and Shubham Sharma all picked up one wicket apiece for MP.

Delhi vs Himachal

Brief Scores: Delhi 305/8 (Dhruv Shorey 88, Hiten Dalal 79; Mayank Dagar 3/67) vs Himachal

Delhi got off to a flying start against Himachal at the Feroz Shah Kotla as Gautam Gambhir and Hiten Dalal added 96 runs before Gambhir, unfortunately, got out for 44 to Mayank Dagar. Dalal and Shorey then enjoyed their stay at the crease but both of them went back to the hut after getting good starts. Dalal got out to Prashant Chopra for 79 while Shorey was picked up by Akash Vashist for 88. Anuj Rawat and Lalit Yadav scored 28 and 26 respectively in the lower middle-order as Delhi ended the day with 305/8. For Himachal, Dagar picked up three while Gurvinder Singh got two wickets. 

Kerala vs Andhra 

Brief Scores: Andhra 225/8 (Ricky Bhui 109; KC Akshay 4/56) vs Kerala

Ricky Bhui’s sensible ton took Andhra to a respectable total of 225 against Kerala on the first day in Thiruvananthapuram. Andhra at one stage was 108/5 but Bhui and Siva Charan Singh (45) combined together to take them past 200. KC Akshay picked up four wickets to push the visitors on the back foot on Day 1. Basil Thampi had a very good run during the initial passage of play as he got rid of both the Andhra openers. Jalaj Saxena and Sandeep Warrier also claimed a wicket each. 

Tamil Nadu vs Hyderabad

Brief Scores: Hyderabad 249/3 (Akshath Reddy 114*, Bavanaka Sandeep 74*; M Mohammed 1/46)

Akshath Reddy and Bavanaka Sandeep remained unbeaten on 114 and 74 respectively for Hyderabad as they scored 249/3 at the end of the first day in the second round game against Tamil Nadu. The Hyderabad side is in the driver’s seat despite losing two early wickets in the first session. M Mohammed and Rahil Shah got rid of Tanmay Agarwal (10) and Rohit Rayudu (13) while the wicket of Himalay Agarwal (29) was picked up by K Vighnesh.
