Bangladesh and embarrassment always go hand in hand and more often than not, players put themselves in a situation that makes them a butt of joke. Yesterday, despite ball coming straight off the bat and not hitting the pad at all, Mehidy Hasan appealed for an LBW and then went for a review too.

Bangladesh found themselves in a rut from the very beginning when Lasith Malinga produced one of the finest spells in the recent memory and the Tigers were reduced to 3 for 2 in 2 overs. It took a Mushfiqur Rahim and a heavily-bandaged Tamim Iqbal special partnership to take them beyond 250 and the contest was very much on. But Sri Lanka, being Sri Lanka, had some other plans on their mind.

They lost wickets in a heap and were at 68/6 in 18 overs with Dilruwan Perera and Thisara Perera at the crease and the game was just a formality by then. But, at the time of glory, Bangladesh didn’t forget to mess it up when Mehidy Hasan bowled one in-dipping delivery that was visibly hit Thisara’s bat. But, Hasan thought it went on to hit the pads and insisted that the team should go for a review.

However, it turned out to be one of the worst reviews taken by any player recently. The replays confirmed that Perera managed to chop it off a thick under-edge to backward point and there was no pad involved whatsoever. Bangladesh went on to win the match comfortably, but not before finding their way to embarrass themselves.
