Former Indian cricketer, Chetan Chauhan, believes Ravi Shastri should be sacked as coach of the senior cricket team ahead of the Australia tour in November. This comes after other former cricketers like Virender Sehwag and Sourav Ganguly also criticised Shastri following the dismal England tour.

Team India slumped to a disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Joe Root & Co. in the recent Test series. Barring Indian captain - Virat Kohli, the rest of the Indian batting lineup faltered across the length of the series while the bowlers performed considerably well.

Indian chief coach, Ravi Shastri, was quick to add that despite the 4-1 margin, there were a lot of positives to take back from the UK tour. But not many agreed with his comments, as the former Indian cricketer was subjected to a wave of criticism from former players and Indian fans as well.

One of the people to question Shastri, was Chetan Chauhan, a veteran of 40 Test matches who asked for the head of the Indian coach after the dismal performance in England.

“Ravi Shastri should be removed as head coach before the Australia tour. Ravi Shastri is very good cricket commentator and he should be allowed to do so,” Chauhan told PTI.

Chauhan, who is also Uttar Pradesh’s sports minister, also added that Shastri should stick to cricket commentary. He was adamant that Shastri should be fired from his post ahead of the Australia tour in November.

In addition to that, what has irked many former cricketers, more than the defeats, was Shastri’s comment during the series where the coach claimed that the current Indian team has been the best travelling side in over 15 years. Former players like Sunil Gavaskar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virender Sehwag have all objected to that claim.
