It has been a common occurrence that a bowler picks up a wicket and celebrates hard before the ball was declared no-ball. Wahab Riaz left himself embarrassed after celebrating hard for Andre Russell’s wicket, but replays suggested that it was a big no-ball and the batman was called back.

Dhaka Dynamites were chasing a target of 128 runs in the stipulated 20 overs against Comilla Victorians in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League in Dhaka. Although it was a small target for them, the Dhaka side was off to a terrible start in the run-chase by losing the first four wickets for just 29 runs inside the powerplay period. It was the 19th over of the match and Russell was on strike with 20 more to win off just 12 deliveries.

Riaz had already bowled a dot ball off the first one and was trying to test Russell with the short-pitched balls. Russell backed away and slashed the second short ball of the over but the ball went high and straight into the hands of the fielder at deep third man. The fielder made no mistake as the Dhaka players were delighted and Riaz was jubilant after picking up an important wicket at that stage. While his celebration spoke about the joy that he got, other members in the dug-out also rose on their feet to celebrate the dismissal.

However, the umpire asked the batsman to stay back as he asked the third umpire to check for an overstepping. The replays suggested that Riaz had stepped up by a mile and after seeing that replay, the opposition camp broke in a chain of laughter. Riaz was left embarrassed as he had to get back to his run-up for the next delivery.
