Yuvraj Singh is an absolute legend of limited-overs cricket, says Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh labelled recently-retired Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as an absolute legend of limited-overs cricket in the last decade or so. The Punjab-born spinner heaped praise on his former teammate and added that the manner in which Yuvraj beat cancer proves the champion he is.
Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh were brothers in arms on the pitch and were involved in India’s most memorable triumphs on the international stage since that epic win at the T20 World Cup in 2007. The duo helped India win their second ICC World Cup trophy in 2011 as both played a significant role at the global showpiece event, which saw Yuvraj win the Man of the Tournament trophy as well.
After Yuvraj announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket yesterday, Harbhajan revealed the huge respect and admiration he shared for his former teammate.
"We wouldn't have won the 2011 World Cup without his efforts. Winning two World Cups (including WorldT20 in 2007) has been his biggest gift to India. He was always full of talent, and he did complete justice to it. He is an absolute legend of limited-overs cricket.
"I've not seen many who could bat like him and win games with so much ease. He was extremely difficult to bowl to. I've played alongside so many legends but I would place Yuvraj above many of them," the former India spinner wrote in his column for TOI.
The Chennai Super Kings spinner further spoke about Yuvraj’s brave struggle against cancer which was nothing short of a heroic.
"The way he beat cancer is unbelievable. He inspired many kids to play for India by winning matches off his bat, but the way he beat cancer showed the champion that he is. He wanted to beat cancer, to inspire people that they can also do it. It was incredible," Singh added.
