India vs Australia | MS Dhoni to be rested for last two ODIs, reveals Sanjay Bangar
After India lost the third ODI in Ranchi to leave the series open at 2-1, Sanjay Bangar has revealed that MS Dhoni wouldn’t play a part in the last two ODIs. While Dhoni is getting a rest after five straight games at home, testing out Rishabh Pant might be the primary reason behind the decision.
MS Dhoni has been able to put the wretched 2018 form to rediscover himself in 2019, which means India have a reliant figure lower down the order to arrest the collapse. That has been a huge insurance for Virat Kohli, especially for the fact that the openers have suddenly lost the form despite having a great 2017 and 2018. However, understanding the fact that excessive cricket can be a workload management challenge for the Indian wicket-keeper, Sanjay Bangar has revealed that Dhoni won’t be a part of the Indian team for the last two games against Australia.
That also offers Rishabh Pant a golden opportunity to stake his claim for the World Cup squad. Pant, for all his success in the Test format, has still not been able to cement a place in the limited-overs side, majorly down to the fact that Dhoni has had a colossal presence behind the stumps.
In another situation, India may opt for KL Rahul as an extra wicket-keeper to try him out lest they want to pick him out in the World Cup. Rahul impressed all and sundry in the T20 series, but how much he can be effective in the ODI series still remains to be seen.
