While MS Dhoni has made a name for himself with his immense contribution behind the stumps for India, for a change, he couldn’t triumph the Shreyas Iyer challenge. After Dhoni loudly appealed for a stumping, Iyer laughed it off and had the last laugh when the third umpire sided with the Delhi man.

One is street-smart while the other has all the experience in the world of doing things that had never been seen in world cricket. When the duo met each other on the field, the drama was guaranteed, but unlike the boring and obvious storyline, Dhoni had to concede defeat.

On the first ball of the 19th over, Ravindra Jadeja managed to land a ball just outside off and got it to rip past the Delhi Capitals skipper’s outside edge, which made its way into Dhoni’s gloves. Iyer seemed to have lost the balance while trying to extend his legs forward. Dhoni sensed an opportunity as Iyer had lifted his back leg in the fleeting period and the former Indian skipper managed to whip off the bails as soon as he saw Iyer did that.

With Dhoni appealing, a wicket was always going to be on the cards and the umpire instantly referred to the third umpire to have a clear look on what had happened and give his verdict. However, Iyer knew that he was safe and his body language gestured that he was fine. But he didn't stop there. The Delhi skipper laughed off Dhoni’s appeal even before the replay came on the giant screen. The last laugh was awaited as everyone had their eyes fixed on the screen.

Replays suggested that the front foot was alright and the chance of LBW was out of the equation, but at the same time, Iyer had taken his leg up for a second. But the angle was very evident when Dhoni had attempted the stumping and it was clear that his leg was behind the crease when the bails came off. Iyer went back to his crease to face the next ball, but not before going 1-0 up against his counterpart.
