The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Wasim Jaffer as the batting coach of its high-performance academy in Dhaka and the veteran opener will spend six months in a year at the academy. SportsCafe understands that Jaffer has given his go-ahead to join the academy after BCB made an offer.

One of the most celebrated batsmen in Indian domestic cricket, Wasim Jaffer is known for his solid technique and the affinity to leave the balls without much fuss. Although his international career never got going and he could only play 31 Tests and two ODIs for India, he is still going strong at the domestic cricket. Jaffer was at the centre of Vidarbha winning two back-to-back Ranji Trophy and he has already been given an extension of another year to represent Vidarbha in domestic cricket.

His solid technique has got BCB’s attraction and in order to establish a proper system at the core, they approached the 41-year-old to take over the academy responsibility. Sources close to SportsCafe revealed that BCB officials met Jaffer for the same purpose when the Mumbaikar was in Bangladesh for a couple of weeks to play in the Dhaka Premier League for Abahani Limited. Even Jaffer had helped Soumya Sarkar get his technique right which helped the Bangladeshi batsman score a hundred and a double-hundred in the DPL.

Jaffer will train Bangladesh batsmen in the U-19s, the A team and also the senior side in the academy which performs the same role as India’s NCA.
