Sussex sign Rashid Khan for third year running
It was confirmed, on Friday, that Sussex have acquired the services of Rashid Khan for the third straight year for the T20 Blast tournament next year. The leg-spinner, who will be available for the entire group stage, will partner with Australia’s Travis Head as the team’s second overseas player.
Having played 20 T20s for the team over the last two seasons, Rashid has taken 24 wickets at an economy rate less than seven per over. Jason Gillespie, the Sussex head coach, clarified that Rashid’s busy schedule was the only possible hindrance in Sussex re-signing him.
"It's absolutely brilliant to have Rash back for a third stint. Everyone knows about his fantastic skills on the field, but he brings so much more to our club behind the scenes. He's a wonderful ambassador for Sussex, for Afghanistan and for the game in general," Gillespie said, reported Cricbuzz.
"Rash's schedule was already busy next summer, and it wasn't guaranteed that he would be back with us, so we're really excited and grateful that he's made himself available again," Gillespie added.
The Afghan skipper himself confirmed Gillespie’s thoughts that the Sussex family was a major factor in him going back.
"I am really happy to be returning to Hove for next year's Blast. Sussex is like a second home to me and I can't wait to get back and see my teammates, the staff and all our fantastic supporters," Rashid said.
