Attending meeting in honorary capacity is not conflict, says Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev has stated that he is flabbergasted at the regular conflict stories, the same reason which led to his resignation from the CAC, and said attending a meeting in honorary capacity is not conflict. Kapil also added that those who complain and those who entertain it are both 'negative' people.

Recently, after getting conflict notice from BCCI ethics officer, Just. DK Jain, the Cricket Advisory Committee members Kapil Dev, along with Shantha Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad, had recently quit the CAC. What was surprising was the CAC was an honorary position and none of the members gets paid for their services which makes it even more difficult to comprehend. That has clearly irritated Kapil as he took a dig at Sanjeev Gupta and DK Jain in a promotional event in Mumbai.

"What is conflict of interest. There is no conflict (of interest) when you have a permanent job, and you're called for a meeting. If you're being paid (for two jobs), then there is a conflict. If you're doing an honorary job, and attending one meeting as a part of it, then there can't be conflict," he summed up.

On being asked if these complaints were doing any good to Indian cricket, Kapil said, "I don't know. You should ask this question to those who are serving these (COI) notices. Some people think just negatively in life, they don't want to do anything positive. May they prosper!"

While Kapil has stayed mum on his future involvements with the BCCI, Anshuman Gaekwad will be contesting for the male Indian Cricketers' Association representative nominee to the BCCI Apex Council in the elections set to take place between October 11 and 13, 2019. The other member of the CAC, Shanta Rangaswamy remains the only female representative as per the final electoral roll, which has excluded Amrita Shinde, CTM Suguna and Mama Dabhi, who were a part of the draft.
