Sourav Ganguly meets Rahul Dravid to discuss roadmap for NCA
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly met National Cricket Academy's (NCA) director Rahul Dravid at the Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday and held crucial discussions to change the NCA infrastructure in Bengaluru. The two former Indian cricketers reviewed a roadmap to take the academy to new heights.
Being situated on a site adjacent to the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the NCA has come under scrutiny for becoming just a ‘rehabilitation centre’ over the years. Even the rehabilitation facilities in the academy have come under the scanner with regard to its handling of injuries to Wriddhiman Saha and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
For over a couple of years now, the BCCI has been making attempts to find an alternate location to build a whole new NCA setup with state-of-the-art facilities. Finally, the national board has managed to acquire land, as per reports by ANI, with an addition 15 acres of land to set up the Centre of Excellence — a project BCCI has put on hold for years.
Situated just a stone’s throw away from the Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli, the land is said to have been allotted to the board by the state government on a 99-year lease in May. With a total area of 40 acres, it should be enough for three grounds, indoor nets, and hostels, apart from the administrative building. Ganguly, Dravid, and other NCA officials visited the proposed land for building the new NCA facility to discuss the roadmap ahead.
