Afghanistan rope in R Sridhar as Assistant coach
Afghanistan Cricket Board have recruited former Indian spinner R Sridhar as the assistant coach of the Senior Men’s National team. Sridhar, who served as India’s fielding coach under Ravi Shastri’s stewardship from 2018-2021, will be working under Jonathan Trott for the Asian side.
Sridhar boasts of plenty of coaching experience in the cricketing circuit, having served as India’s fielding coach between 2014-2021. The 90s cricketer began his coaching stint in 2001 and was also a part of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He was India U19’s fielding coach and spin assistant for the U19 T20 World Cup 2014 as well.
The 54-year-old will be a part of the Afghan contingent traveling to India for a one-off Test against New Zealand, starting September 9. Subsequently, Sridhar will also be a part of the camp for the three ODIs against South Africa starting September 18.
Sridhar is a Level 3 certified coach and the Hyderabad-bred represented in 35 First Class games, picking up 91 wickets at an impressive bowling average of 29.09.
