There's nothing more tragic in sports than an injury and nothing more humiliating in cricket than a dropped sitter, and one can only imagine the double whammy if the two occur together. Richa Ghosh didn't have to use imagination on Friday after she experienced the misfortune against South Africa.

‌A strong performance from their top three propelled South Africa to their third-highest total in WT20Is ever with a score of 189/4 at the end of their allotted overs. Tanzim Brits proved to be the wrecker-in after some late explosives took her score to 81 off just 56 deliveries while Pooja Vastrakar starred with the ball, scalping two wickets at the cost of just 23 runs in her four overs. However, the pacer could have returned an even better haul and ended Brits' heroics early, if things hadn't gone horribly wrong in the 16th over for the Women in Blue.

On the third ball, the opener tried to heave a length ball but managed just a thick top edge that made the ball soar into the night sky. Wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh immediately called for the catch and seemed to have an eternity to position herself under the ball. Yet, as the ball dropped on her, Richa's misjudgement became apparent and the youngster eventually had to put in a desperate mis-timed forward dive. The Kookaburra consequently bounced off her gloves and struck Richa on the neck while she brutally hit the ground flat, her body shaking tumultuously in the impact.

Richa let her face rest on the turf for a while as some teammates converged around her before raising her head with a shocked expression. The physio rushed in soon after and a shaken Richa had to walk off for the rest of the innings, triggering Twitterati to flood social media with their reactions.
