PAK vs BAN | Twitter in splits as Nahid Rana bizarrely glitches to be trapped LBW in comical fashion
There are number elevens that one cannot bear to watch because they are no good, and then there are those that are so bad you cannot take your eyes off them. Nahid Rana definitely belongs to the latter category as was proved on Sunday when he refused to take any action against a straight delivery.
Bangladesh recovered from a nightmare position of 26/6 to end up with a total of 262, a mere 12 runs behind Pakistan's first innings total of 274. The brunt of the recovery was done by Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in a 165-run stand for the seventh wicket, with the former working his way to a brilliant 138 while the latter notched up an eighth Test half-century before falling for 78. The Tigers even looked poised to take the lead as the day wore on and were it not for Nahid Rana's brain fade, they might have fulfilled the ambition too.
The number eleven came out to bat in the 79th over with Hasan Mahmud at the other end who had faced 51 balls without much ado while Litton had clawed back the deficit at the other end. Rana simply had to survive four balls from off-spinner Salman Agha but it immediately became evident what a tall-order that was for the youngster. After defending his first ball back to the bowler, Nahid took a tentative half-step forward against a flighted delivery and seemed to shape up for a block. However, everyone was bizarrely left waiting for a shot that never arrived, even as the ball pitched full on middle stump and thumped into the front pad while Nahid's eyes remained fixated on the red cherry. It was as straightforward a call as they come for the umpire and the finger was immediately raised to the surprise of no one, including the batter. Nahid could not do much else but sheepishly and almost apologetically grin at Hasan at the other end before taking a review for the sake of it.
Twitterati could not fathom Nahid's sheer inability to bat and quickly took to social media to ridicule the same.
