Great players often inspire the next generation, and former India captain MS Dhoni is no exception. Manoj Bhandage, with his immaculate ball-striking and a helicopter shot reminiscent of Dhoni's trademark stroke, is the latest to follow in his footsteps as was the case in the Maharaja Trophy Final.

Winning the toss and electing to field first didn’t quite pay dividends for Mayanak Agarwal and the Bengaluru Blasters. Karthik SU and Karun Nair consolidated an 81-run second-wicket partnership to set the stage for a strong finish. In-form Bhandage capitalized on the opportunity and smacked 44* off 13 balls, including five sixes, one of which became the center of attraction for the fans.

With the score reading 183/4 in 19 overs, the Mysuru Warriors middle-order eyed a 200-plus total. Following a couple of singles, Bhandage threw the kitchen sink, starting with a six on the third ball of the last over. Santok Singh came over the wicket and aimed for a yorker outside the stumps. However, the bowler undercooked his effort and the southpaw went deep inside the crease to clobber it straight of long on for a six. Bhandage was quick to execute it and produced power with jerking action which resembled Dhoni’s trademark Helicopter shot.

He also followed it up with a couple of more sixes in the over to help the Warriors finish at 207/4 in the first innings. The commentators were off their seats on seeing this extraordinary display of batting and Bhandage became the talk of the town in the main event.
