WPL | Twitter reacts to Harman hurricane and big-match Natalie bruise Capitals as MI secure second title in humdinger

The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals by 18 runs to clinch their second WPL title. Harmanpreet Kaur’s breezy 66 and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s all-round excellence eclipse Marizanne Kapp’s all-round blitz as Capitals end up runners-up for the third consecutive time in WPL.
Eyeing to turn the fortunes in their third consecutive WPL final, the Delhi Capitals’ decision to field first seemed to work well at the start. Riding on Marizane Kapp's incredible spell of 4-0-11-2, the visitors pushed Mumbai Indians on the back foot after a 20-run powerplay. Having lost the openers early, Harmanpreet Kaur and Natalie Sciver-Brunt tried to ease the stage with a magnificent partnership. The former switched gears after the eighth over, steering MI to the hundred-run mark in the 15th over through a 33-ball fifty. In the same over, the English all-rounder departed for 28-ball 30, ending a 79-run stand to make way for another collapse. Subsequently, the hosts lost four wickets in as many overs before managing to post 147 runs due to the blitz of G Kamalini, Sanskriti Gupta, and Amanjot Kaur.
Similar to their counterparts, the Capitals lost a couple of wickets in the form of the openers as Natalie and Shabnim Ismail struck inside the powerplay. The woes deepened after the 37-run powerplay as the spinners wreaked havoc, with Amelia Kerr bagging a couple of scalps. Although Jemimah Rodrigues looked steady in the middle, Kerr’s excellent catch of her bowling pushed DC to 67/5 in eleven overs. A Sarah Bryce run out in the thirteenth over didn’t help the visitors’ cause before a 17-run 16th over, courtesy of two fours and a six from Marizanne Kapp, kept the Capitals in the chase. As the contest seemed evenly poised, the ploy to bring Shabnim curbed them to 29 off the last three overs. This is when Nat returned to remove Kapp and Shikha Pandey on back-to-back deliveries, before Niki Prasad’s six against Hayley Matthews in the 19th over trimmed the equation to 14 needed off the last with a lone wicket left. However, the youngsters failed to win against Natalie's experience in the final over as MI secured their second WPL title by dousing the Capitals.
