Virat Kohli posting a photo on his social media handles is sometimes enough to scare the fans. But this time, Kohli posted a photo of his training sessions, which has given them a nostalgia. The fire in his eyes shows that Kohli is now ready for the series against New Zealand, starting 11 November.
Virat Kohli has not been as active on social media as he was earlier. Fans who have watched him in his prime, know how the posts of Kohli looked before COVID-19 arrived. However, if you have not witnessed the same, the right time has arrived yet again, with Kohli giving a nostalgia to the fans.
The Indian team is practicing for the first ODI against New Zealand. This match will take place on 11 January at Vadodara, as Virat Kohli was seen in full form in the practice sessions. But to make things a bit more surprising for the fans, Kohli also posted some photos of his practice sessions. While these may be normal photos for other fans, it is a nostalgic moment for all Kohli fans.
1. Kohli's Post Has Everyone Talking
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be returning back to the crease as India takes on New Zealand in the three match ODI series. Starting from 11 January, fans will remain eager to know whether Kohli will be able to continue his red hot form or not. He won the Player of the Series award in the recent series against South Africa, which makes him fully ready against the Kiwis.
Kohli also had a great time in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a century and a half-century in two games he played. After that, he has joined the Indian team for the ODI series against New Zealand, and its first match will be played at Vadodara. After a long time, Kohli shared a picture of his practice sessions on his Instagram account.
The last time Virat posted a photo of his practice sessions in the nets, it was before the World Test Championship 2023 final. Seeing him post an image of his practice sessions after more than 2 years takes the fans back to 2023. This was also the year when Kohli broke records and finished as the Player of the Series in the World Cup 2023.
Robin Uthappa, former Indian cricketer, also reacted to Kohli's post. It has triggered rumours that Kohli might take back his retirement from the Test format. Talking about the same, Uthappa said, “Them eyes tell u a story…Surely it’s time to rescind his test retirement. Would love to see him back in Test cricket.”
2. Can Kohli Gain Number 1 ODI Spot?
The bigger question for the ODI series between India and New Zealand remains on the number one ICC rankings. It is a tough competition between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, regarding who could stay at the top. Rohit Sharma was able to gain the top spot in the Australia tour, but Kohli was able to outperform him in the series against South Africa.
Following this, Kohli has now taken up the second spot in the ICC ODI rankings. He stands just behind Rohit Sharma and the difference between them is just in single digits. A big score from Virat Kohli in the first ODI, where he maintains a huge gap in terms of runs with Rohit Sharma might be helpful for him to gain the top spot.
His form still remains at its own peak, as Kohli has scored 50+ runs in each of his last four innings. This includes two consecutive centuries which he brought up against South Africa in the home series. And now, he will be eager to continue the same in the series against New Zealand, to show his commitment towards the 2027 World Cup.
3. Kohli Against New Zealand
New Zealand and India, against each other in the ODIs always seem to be a certified blockbuster clash. Whether it is a bilateral series or the World Cup knockouts, both teams have seen the better of one another. But in the clash against New Zealand, Kohli has proven to be one of the key batsmen for the Indian team as usual.
Virat Kohli vs New Zealand:
- Innings: 33
- Not Out: 3
- Runs: 1657
- Average: 55.23
- Strike Rate: 95.50
- 100s: 6
- 50s: 9
It should also be noted that the last time when India and New Zealand faced each other in India, Kohli smashed his 50th ODI century. And this came during the 2023 World Cup semi-final clash. Although he was not able to do well against them in the Champions Trophy, Kohli seems to be ready for redemption in the ODI series.
