Cricketing moments often give way to deja vu, and Glenn Maxwell created another during the BBL knockout game at Hobart Hurricanes. The Melbourne Stars all-rounder once again dismissed Mitchell Owen in the first over of the game to repeat the order of events from their last meeting in Melbourne.

‌The Big Bash League knockout game between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars was reduced to 10 overs after rain delayed the start of proceedings in Hobart. With further downpour expected, the Stars’ skipper Marcus Stoinis, expectedly chose to put the Hurricanes in at the Bellerive Oval.

And Hurricanes opener Mitchell Owen meant business straight away, smashing Glenn Maxwell for a huge six over mid-wicket in the third ball of the innings. However, the veteran off-spinner had the last laugh, as he exacted revenge on the big batter a ball later.

After bowling in the arc of Owen and on the stumps to get punished, the all-rounder cleverly kept the ball away from the timber to surprise the batter. Just as Owen moved away from the stumps and lined up to send the bowler over the packed off-side field, Maxwell slightly shortened the length to beat him.

And keeper Sam Harper did the rest, executing a lightning stumping just as Owen lost his balance, and his back leg went briefly out of the crease. Harper’s quick hands meant the batter’s leg was in the air while trying to get back, and replays confirmed his walk back to the dugout.

Twitter had deja vu as Maxwell once again trapped the big batter after getting smacked for a six in the first over of the game, similar to their last outing in Melbourne last month.
