Cricket is often about second chances and that was on show in the second T20I between India and New Zealand. With Devon Conway dropping Sanju Samson, the batter failed to cash in, getting out two balls later but the Kiwi opener redeemed himself with a catch of Abhishek Sharma in the next over.

‌New Zealand had a great start and end to their innings after India asked them to bat in the second T20I in Raipur on Friday. Rachin Ravindra (44) and Mitchell Santner (47*) played extended cameos to power the Kiwis to 208/6 in their allotted 20 overs at the Shaheed Veer Narayan International Stadium.

The Indian openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma were expected to go all guns blazing in the run chase. And as expected the wicketkeeper-batter went for an uppish flick as Matt Henry strayed into his pads with a fuller delivery in the second ball of the game.

But there was no timing on the shot as the ball hit his bottom part of the willow with Devon Conway lining up for a straightforward catch. But the fielder had a horrific misjudgement parrying it over the fence for a six. However, Samson could not make use of the reprieve as he mistimed while trying to go over mid-on, two balls later.

Conway was fortunate that Samson did not last long and he had his moment of redemption too in the next over. With Abhishek Sharma mirroring Samson’s flick in the next over of Jacob Duffy, the Kiwi opener was careful not to let this opportunity pass off, sending the in-form southpaw for a first-ball duck.

Twitter had mixed emotions as Samson and Conway made different use of their second chances.
