Three complete seasons of the WPL and the fourth running, and finally, the tournament saw a centurion in the MI vs RCB game in Vadodara. And who else than Nat Sciver-Brunt to create history as the all-rounder got to her three-figure mark, in just 57 balls, in the last over of the innings.

MI's Nat Sciver-Brunt celebrates the first century of WPL against RCB in Vadodara
‌After being put into bat, Mumbai Indians had a circumspect start against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League in Vadodara on Monday. The Women in Blue were placed at 38/1 at the end of the six-over powerplay, but they had the experienced duo of Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt in the middle.

And rightly so, the pair shifted gears admirably to take the side past the 100-run mark in the next six overs. The England skipper, who was on 11 off 13 balls at the six-over mark, smashed boundaries for fun to go past her fifty in 32 balls.

With her partner Matthews, being dismissed after scoring her half-century, and the partnership of 131 runs finally coming to an end, the entire attention shifted to Sciver-Brunt. She continued her exploits against the bowlers, and the obvious question crept in just as she crossed the 80-run mark and three overs still to play.

Will she be the first centurion in the history of the WPL? A nervous moment saw her overcome a risky single to get to strike on 99, while the entire dressing room was on tenterhooks. But she looked determined to break the hundred hoodoo in the tournament as she got a single in the final over to get to the three-figure mark.

She celebrated in style, soaking in all the applause that came her way to power the side to a commendable 199/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Twitter stood up in ovation as the tournament’s top run-getter became its first centurion as well.
