Anupam Pandey

Pat Cummins has been offered a new contract by Cricket Australia. This comes as an extension for the Australian skipper to play for them till 2029, receiving more than 27 crore rupees every year. But, will this affect his IPL appearances in the upcoming seasons or not?

Pat Cummins has positioned himself as one of the most valuable bowlers and captains across different formats. Whether he plays for Australia or he plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad, his contributions to the team have always been vital. Recently, Cummins has been offered a new contract by Cricket Australia as an extension.

As per the reports, he has been offered with a three year extension by Cricket Australia. And he would be paid 4 million AUD per year, or 12 million AUD in total. This means Cummins is being offered a whopping total of 27.43 crore rupees annually to play for Cricket Australia till 2029 and captain the team in the major ICC events.

He has been the reason why Australia won two ICC titles in a single year. Cummins allowed them to win the WTC final and World Cup final in 2023 against India. Reports suggest that the main objective of such payment is to ensure that he remains committed to the national duty rather than staying focused on the T20 leagues such as IPL.

Our Take

The deal which has been put in front of Pat Cummins surely puts his IPL participation in question. If he will have to focus more on the national duties, it would also mean that he needs some time off from the Indian Premier League. So, it remains to be seen how Cummins would manage both IPL and international matches in the upcoming years. Reports also claim that similar contracts will be offered to players like Travis Head.
