Despite the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) technical committee meeting to zero in from the shortlisted candidates for the Technical Director's position, they have now decided to meet them first before taking a call. The national coach will be appointed by the mid-week of May.

The committee chaired by former Indian international player Shyam Thapa had deliberated on the shortlisted candidates previously but has now decided to appoint them only after meeting them individually. Goal has also reported that the four candidates - Jorge Castelo, Gaioz Darsadze, Doru Isac and Scott O’Donnell - would be asked to submit a presentation before the final call.

“We will have a chat with all the shortlisted candidates to understand their vision, and objective. The process will be completed within the next fortnight," Thapa stated, reported Goal.

The committee has also heaped praise on the Indian Senior Women’s Team’s performance in the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Olympic Qualifiers Round 2, where India beat Indonesia 2-0 and Nepal 3-1, before drawing 3-3 with Myanmar and bowing out on goal difference.

They have also applauded the Indian Senior Men’s team’s encouraging displays in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, where the Blues were eliminated by the tooth of their nail after succumbing to injury time winner against Bahrain after previously beating Thailand and losing to the hosts.

Apart from that, the committee has decided to emphasize more on the future roadmap of Indian football and extensively went through the process of selecting the Indian national team coach. The Committee and the Secretariat have also been in the process of shortlisting the candidates for the all-important position that is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, with the appointment taking place within the scheduled deadline of the mid-week of May.
