Having let Alberto Moreno leave over the summer, Liverpool walked into the season without a back-up left-back which is set to change with a move for Mathieu Goncalves. The Reds have brought in a few young stars with the club looking to build a team with Trent Alexander-Arnold leading the charge.

Despite their incredible start to the season and the fact that they are through into knockout stages of the Champions League, Liverpool still have a few issues to handle. Their squad depth will be tested to the max in December with the Reds playing the Club World Cup, the Premier League and the Carabao Cup in one month which has caused a few selection problems for Jurgen Klopp.

It has added pressure for their players with Andrew Robertson struggling with injuries and James Milner too old to handle the pressure, but the Daily Mail has reported that defender Mathieu Goncalves is a January target with the Reds looking for back-up. The young left-back has built a reputation as one of Toulouse’s best recruits over the years with Goncalves making his Ligue 1 debut at the age of 18 against a tough PSG star.

Since then the French defender has gone on to play two more games since then and the Mail further added that the Reds believe the left-back would be a great addition to their young team. The club are looking to build for the future especially with the additions of Ki-Jana. However, with Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg all making an impact and the Mail added that Goncalves would be the perfect addition to that squad.
