Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed that Manchester United were denied a sure shot penalty in their Europa League match with AZ Alkmaar which ended in 0-0. Manchester United failed to get a single shot on target in a yet another awful display as they toiled throughout the game.

The draw against AZ Alkmaar now means that Manchester United have failed to secure a single win in their last 10 away games. Despite the disappointing result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw the game positively and focused on the bad refereeing decision that denied United a “nailed on penalty”. Alkmaar player Stijn Wuytens brought down Marcus Rashford with 10 minutes to go.

Since there is no Video Assistant Referee in the group stages of the Europa League, the referee couldn’t consult the VAR and didn't award the penalty. The lack of a decision seemed to irk Solskjaer, as the Manchester United boss went on to admit that his side have now been denied two game-changing penalties in two consecutive games. He further went on to add that his side played very well and deserved to get the win against AZ Alkmaar.

"I'm very happy with the boys. It should have been three points. I couldn't believe what I saw, same as Arsenal with the handball. It's frustrating getting these little things. The boys deserve so much more. It's going to turn at one point and we'll get the decisions and then they'll get the results we deserve. This is a good performance and a good point against a good opponent on a bad surface," he said reports the BBC.

The Old Trafford club were denied a handball in their Premier League game against Arsenal as well, which too ended in a draw. The Norwegian was also unhappy with the condition of the pitch and described it as one of the "worst ones I have seen for a long while". This was yet another uninspiring performance which lacked solidity and creativity from United players.

AZ Alkmaar had better chances and better opportunities in front of the gaol. Jesse Lingard from United had the best chance for United but failed to capitalize. The draw leaves United in the second position in Group L of the Europa League with 4 points.
