Xabi Alonso is in talks to become Liverpool’s next manager and has reportedly asked for 4 major signings worth about €300 million. His targets include Micky van de Ven, Adam Wharton, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise, whose combined value is €298.3 million. Liverpool may part ways with Arne Slot after a poor title defence and possible Champions League failure soon.

After the recent exit of Xabi Alonso from Real Madrid, fresh reports claim the former midfielder is already in talks with Liverpool over a sensational return as head coach. Alonso left Los Blancos earlier this month by mutual consent and has now emerged as the leading candidate to replace Arne Slot, who is under pressure following a disappointing Premier League title defence. According to reports from Spain and transfer insider IndyKaila, a meeting took place on Friday between Alonso’s representatives and Liverpool officials.

During the discussions, Alonso reportedly asked for four major signings to reshape the squad. The players named were Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur valued at €61.1m, Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace valued at €61.7m, Bradley Barcola from PSG valued at €69.6m and Michael Olise from Bayern Munich valued at €105.9m. Their combined estimated transfer value stands at €298.3m. Liverpool spent close to €500m in the previous summer window, but Alonso is said to want firm guarantees of further investment.

Slot has 18 months left on his contract and could be dismissed if Champions League qualification is missed. Steven Gerrard is reportedly being considered as a temporary option if Slot leaves before the season ends. Alonso won 24 of his 34 matches at Real Madrid but departed after issues with the squad. He is now the favourite to take over permanently at Anfield.
