Indian shooter Jitu Rai bagged a silver medal in men's 50m free pistol event at the 2015 Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait on Wednesday. The 25-year-old’s score of 189.5 (555) was second behind South Korean Park Daehun's 199.2 (567). Two other Indians participated in this category: Prakash Nanjappa finished 11th and Omkar Singh 24th.

With this medal, Rai, who has already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics, carried forward his incredible form in this event from last year, when he won silver at the ISSF World Cup and gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Indian junior and youth shooters have achieved more success than the seniors so far in the competition. Akhil Sheoran and Prashant won silver and bronze respectively in the junior men's 10m air rifle event. The duo later paired up to bag silver in the team event.

Gaayathri Ithyanadam won silver in the junior women's 50m rifle prone event and later teamed up with Srinithi Venkatesh and Sonika to win silver in the team event. India also bagged gold medals in junior women's 25m pistol and youth women's 10m air pistol team events.
