Sanjeev Rajput wins silver at shooting World Cup
Rifle shooter Sanjeev Rajput won a silver medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the on going ISSF World Cup in Baku on Tuesday. This was Sanjeev's first medal in the World Cup after a gap of 5 years as he produced three stunning shots in the end to move ahead of Korean Hyeonjun Kim.
Sanjeev, 35, shot 1167 in the qualifying round, where the top 8 shooters qualify for the final, to finish 7th. Gagan Narang finished with a score of 1161, while Chain Singh finished with a score of 1159 to finish outside the qualifications for the finals. In the finals where all shooters start from zero, Sanjeev shot consistently to remain in top 3. However, he stumbled in the later half of the finals and was on the verge of elimination at 4th position. He then produced a magical performance to shoot 10.8, 10.8 and 10.6 (out of a maximum of 10.9) in his last 3 shots to clinch the silver medal behind Petar Gorsa of Croatia.
Viren Rasquinha, CEO of OGQ said "This is a stunning performance by Sanjeev to win the silver medal in technically the toughest rifle event. Coming after a gap of 5 years, this medal will do his confidence a world of good. OGQ is proud to support Sanjeev."
