Indian shooter Kynan Chenai did well to finish behind Kuwait’s Abdulrahman Al Faihan and Talal Al-Rashidi in the men’s trap event at the 7th Asian Shotgun Championship as he won his first senior medal at the international level. His win takes India to two golds and one bronze in the competition.

The boy from Hyderabad did exceptionally well to shoot 116 out of 125 and qualify for the six men final round from the third position and then held on to it till the finals. He managed to score 30 to fall behind gold medalist Al Faihan, who shot a new Asian finals record of 39, followed by Al-Rashidi bagging 38.

Kynan said, "Yeah I think it's my first medal at the senior level...not very sure. Conditions were very tough, winds were at 60-70 kmph. The range layout was also difficult and with all the internal fighting going on inside my brain after a strenuous qualification, it was a tough final.

"Happy to have overcome all that and very happy to come out with this result. Also with the new rules of 50 targets in the finals, this was the first final I shot with the new rules. So really very happy," he added.

His compatriots, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Birendeep Sodhi couldn’t impress ending in 17th with a score of 110 and 36th place with 98 respectively. India, as a whole, finished in seventh place with a combined score of 324.

Kuwait won gold, Lebanon clinched the silver and the UAE settled for bronze. India have so far won two gold medals and a bronze in the competition held in in Astana, Kazakhstan.
